Each year, AAF Baltimore recognizes the leaders who have left a profound impact on the advertising and marketing landscape of our community. The Awards of Distinction honor individuals whose dedication, innovation, and leadership have propelled Baltimore’s advertising industry forward, setting new standards of excellence and inspiring future generations.
In 2025, we proudly recognize four outstanding honorees whose contributions have shaped our industry and left a lasting legacy.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Matt Doud
The Lifetime Achievement Award is the most prestigious honor of the evening, recognizing an individual whose career has left an indelible mark on Baltimore’s advertising community. Matt Doud is a true visionary whose journey began with a single client, a bold idea, and an unshakable belief in the power of creativity.
As co-founder of Planit, one of Baltimore’s leading advertising agencies, Matt has been at the forefront of industry transformation. Under his leadership, Planit has grown into a dynamic and influential agency, partnering with brands like Toro, DuPont, Westlake Royal Building Products, SourceAmerica, Kiddie Academy, Sheetz, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Curio Wellness, Riviana Foods, and more.
Matt’s impact extends far beyond his agency. A dedicated advocate for the creative community, he serves on the Baltimore Chapter of the Entrepreneurs' Organization, supports AAF Baltimore, the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and the Advertising and Marketing Independent Network Worldwide, and leads Planit’s annual Day of Service. His unwavering commitment to mentorship, philanthropy, and industry innovation makes him a cornerstone of Baltimore’s creative ecosystem.

Silver Medal Award: Sande Riesett
Established in 1959, the Silver Medal Award is one of AAF’s highest honors, recognizing individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advertising industry through creative excellence, leadership, and community impact. This year’s recipient, Sande Riesett, is a creative powerhouse whose work has extended beyond advertising and into meaningful social change.
As a writer and creative director at WB Doner, Sande built a reputation for unparalleled dedication, constantly refining and perfecting her work. Her ability to craft compelling narratives led to award-winning campaigns that set new benchmarks in advertising. However, her impact extends beyond the industry.
In response to a wave of tragic animal abuse cases in Baltimore, Sande co-founded Show Your Soft Side, a nonprofit dedicated to ending animal cruelty through an immensely powerful and widely recognized campaign. What began as a few posters in Baltimore schools evolved into an international movement, spreading from Baltimore to Brazil. Her work has transformed attitudes, inspired action, and saved countless lives, proving that advertising can be a vehicle for profound change.

Iconoclast Award: Joyce Whitney
The Iconoclast Award, established in 2020 to commemorate AAF Baltimore’s centennial, honors trailblazing women in advertising, marketing, business, and design. Named in recognition of Katherine Mahool, the first nominated president of the organization, this award celebrates those who have broken barriers, challenged norms, and redefined industries.
This year’s honoree, Joyce Whitney, entered the advertising world at a time when it was dominated by the so-called “Mad Men” era—a boys’ club where women were often sidelined. But Joyce refused to be overlooked. Instead, she carved out her own path, challenging conventions, shattering glass ceilings, and proving that talent, resilience, and creativity transcend gender barriers.
Currently serving as Senior Procurement Manager - Global Marketing, Media & Advertising at McCormick & Company, Joyce leads global advertising and promotion procurement for major brands like McCormick’s, Frank’s, French’s, Cholula, Grillmates, and Old Bay. Her expertise spans media negotiations, supplier management, and strategic sourcing. Prior to McCormick, Joyce held senior procurement roles at Ciena, where she managed advertising and corporate marketing procurement, and at Pandora, where she oversaw creative production operations for retail advertising.
Through fearless innovation, strategic insight, and an unwavering commitment to mentorship, Joyce has helped shape the industry for future generations of women. Her career stands as a testament to the power of perseverance, breaking stereotypes, and leading with vision and purpose.

Crystal Prism Award: Beth Cyphers
Often described as the award for the “unsung hero,” the Crystal Prism Award acknowledges individuals who have selflessly dedicated their time and talents to advancing the AAF Baltimore community. This year’s honoree, Beth Cyphers, exemplifies this spirit of service and commitment.
As co-chair of the Membership Committee and a board member since 2023, Beth has played an instrumental role in strengthening AAF Baltimore’s presence, cultivating key relationships, and securing financial support through sponsorships. Her leadership was pivotal to the success of the 2024 award show. Beyond AAF Baltimore, Beth serves as Senior Vice President at Media Works, where her expertise and unwavering dedication continue to shape Baltimore’s advertising landscape.
